Five weeks in Atwater Village, LA — studio, housing, and a stipend, no cost to you.
Dates likely accurate, subject to change.
Flower Residency runs a rolling application process — you can apply to both upcoming residencies at once, or apply later for a specific one. Applications are reviewed first by David Maxwell, then voted on by the Flower Petals — a board of artists, gallerists, curators, advisors, and collectors.
Already applied and want to reapply with the same materials? Just email flowerresidency@gmail.com to let us know — no need to resubmit everything.
A $500 living stipend and a $500 materials stipend, free canvases and painting surfaces, a furnished guest house, and pool/backyard access.
Travel expenses are not provided.
Artists over 18. International applicants are encouraged to apply.
At least 5 paintings during your stay. Finished work you bring or ship in can count toward that, at the residency's expense.
No — but residents donate one 18"x24" painting (a self-portrait is encouraged) and a small portrait of David Maxwell to the archive.
Flower Petals visit your studio throughout the residency, scheduled around you, plus an open studio event at the end for Flower Petals and the public.
Daytime guests are welcome; overnight guests generally aren't (exceptions for significant others). Pets can't come with you — but there's a friendly resident dog.
David Maxwell narrows the applicant pool, then the Flower Petals board votes on finalists.
Only one resident participates at a time.
